About Christina Senkiw
CHRISTINA SENKIW, artist, author and illustrator was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. She drew pictures and wrote stories ever since she can remember.
In 1973, Christina received her B.A. in Fine Art — Art History and Studio — from the University of Toronto. She continued to study painting, illustration and design at the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto. Christina works as a freelance painter, illustrator, designer, writer and editor.
Christina has exhibited her paintings in 12 solo exhibitions and in numerous group shows in Canada and the United States. Her artwork can be found in many private and public collections. Over the years, Christina has created many series of acrylic paintings. Her early works are hard-edged abstracts. Gradually, her style shifted towards semi-abstract representation. Currently, Christina is working on new series of acrylic paintings, titled "Nature Studies", in a semi-realistic style. Her favourite media are acrylic paints, colour pencils, watercolour crayons, pen and ink, conte, pastels and watercolours.
Christina has written and/or illustrated 6 books: Mother Nature's Pets, Sonja's First Camp, I Want to Dance, History of Ukrainian Costume, Timmy Kitten and His Helpful Friends, and My Primer. She has also created a series of Art Prints for Children, and her latest greeting card is titled Blue Madonna.
Christina is the author of numerous articles on art and reviews of art exhibits. She has edited texts for newsletters, catalogues and books, and has designed numerous invitations, posters, cards and catalogues.
Christina is active in several organizations: TWUC (The Writers' Union of Canada), CANSCAIP (Canadian Society of Children's Authors, Illustrators and Performers), USOM (Ukrainian Association of Visual Artists in Canada), and has been a long-serving member of the Board of Directors of the Ukrainian Canadian Art Foundation's KUMF Gallery. She is also a member of VAO (Visual Arts Ontario) and Arts Etobicoke.
